WHEN IS THE FIRST QUEER ART BRUNCH?
WHERE IS THE FIRST QUEER ART BRUNCH?
Lunchroom Downtown, Reguliersdwarsstraat 31, 1017 BJ Amsterdam
“Lunchroom Downtown is located in the oldest existing building of Reguliersdwarsstraat, dating back to 1642. As such, this is a good example of how 17th century Dutch houses with a shop at the front looked like. In 1970, two gay friends, Fokke IJsinga and Frits Blaauw, started an espresso bar here, which became the first openly gay cafe of the city. This makes Downtown also the oldest existing gay establishment of the street.”
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Short answer: EVERYBODY! Long answer: If you identify within the LGBTIQ+ community and express yourself in any kind of art form, you are invited! All you need is your unique perspective, joy, and the willingness to participate in the programme!
I'D LIKE TO HELP/VOLUNTEER!
Ideas and help are always welcome, email us at email@example.com, with the subject; ‘I’d like to volunteer/help’ and let us know.
Q-ABC is a non-profit community event, we are looking for funding and sponsors, if you know of any sponsors or are a sponsor and would like to connect with us, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org .
DONATE A KO-FI
(Ko-fi’s a friendly way to ask to support your work for the price of a coffee.)
Another way to help our initiative is to donate a Ko-fi.
The Ko-fi’s helps us cover the event costs, feature artist on our website and Q-ABC Zine.
We’d also like to invite a few artists, a ‘pay it forward’, for artists who do not have the financial means to attend an event like this and we make this possible by totally reimbursing their ticket and travel costs.
HOW DO I GET A Q_ABC ZINE?
For now the Q-ABC Zine is published digitally, we are looking for sponsors to be able to offer a printed version. You can get a Q-ABC Zine here: (link)
I'D LIKE TO BE FEATURED - ON YOUR WEBSITE / IN YOUR ZINE / ON INSTAGRAM
We’d like to feature artist on our website and Q-ABC Zine and Instagram to showcase queer artists we love and support.
On Instagram we curate art in our feed daily (of artists that we follow) and feature them in our stories. If there are queer – womxn/fem/nonbinairy/trans/poc artists we need to follow, message us via our Instagram DM.
To be featured on our website:
If you identify within the LGBTIQ+ community and express yourself in any kind of art form, you are invited to send us your work.
It can be any work of yours new/recent/old, whichever you like to be featured.
Email us your art (one piece) and a description about the art and yourself to: email@example.com , with the subject Q-ABC Art Submission.
Read more about being featured in our Q_ABC Zine down below.
WHEN AND WHERE IS THE NEXT Q-ABC BRUNCH EVENT?
The Q-ABC initiative will host get-togethers all across the world.
We don’t have a date yet, though there are rumors about London! 😉
HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
As an attendee you can not only enjoy a delicious brunch among like-minded people, you can also actively participate, the brunch programming is based on you the brunch participants. The activities can include; contributing art works / installations for the exhibition at the Brunch location, Drag performances, giving a lecture, poetry recitals and participating in leading discussions on topics such as; toxic masculinity, the inclusivity of POC and differently abled persons and body positivity in art. It’s about getting to know each other, sharing each other’s experiences and art.
The regular Q-ABC brunch ticket is €20,- this includes a welcoming Mimosa (or non-alcoholic drink), two drinks, a lunch dish and a dessert. (Alcoholic drinks have to be paid for separately.)
Q-ABC VIP tickets, just like with a Kickstarter Campaign, the buyer receives awards for buying this special ticket. These tickets help us to fund the brunch event, the QueerArt Brunch Club is a non-profit event, none of the money goes to the Q-ABC team, but to cover the expenses and the event location Lunchroom Downtown, who has been welcoming and friendly enough to receive us during the busiest time of Amsterdam Canal Pride. The VIP tickets also contribute to a ‘pay it forward’, we would also like to invite a few artists who do not have the financial means to normally attend an event like this and make this possible by totally reimbursing their ticket and travel costs.
Besides the event itself, we are also created a Queer Art Brunch Club Zine featuring our beloved queer artist community.
The first Q-ABC issue theme is “Queer Feast”.
We’ve asked the artists to let their imagination run wild! The top entries (chosen by us, the chefs of this colourful buffet) will also be featured on unique Q-ABC posters.
